Map one:
This is a map of the foothills behind Santa Barbara. It shows the boundaries of the Tea Fire of 2008 and the trails around it. I am from Santa Barbara and one of the best things to do, when you're not at the beach, it to go hiking. The two major fires (Tea Fire and Jesusita Fire) in the past year burned right over many of the popular trails in the area. This map was made before the Jesusita Fire of May 2009 that burned the area directly to the left in this picture making the fire boundary even larger. You can see the Jesusita Trail in this photo, which is where the other fire was started. Many people I know were affected by the Tea Fire and are still trying to rebuild their homes. The scenery of the mountain area looks different than it did while i was growing up. Instead of evergreen shrublands and trees, it turned into a blackened forest like something out of a Tim Burton movie. Thankfully the vegetation is now resprouting.
